Hamburger Steak and Gravy
Ingredients:
2 pounds of Ground Beef
Seasoning of Choice (As much as you want)
1/4 cup Self-Rising Flour
3-4 cups Chicken Stock (You can use Beef Stock)
Salt and Pepper to Taste
Optional:
Sliced Onions
Sliced Peppers
Sliced Mushrooms
Directions
1. On medium-high heat add bacon grease or oil to your pan.
2. If you decide to add sliced onions, peppers, or mushrooms, you can add them to the pan and cook them until they are partially tender before adding the hamburger patties.
3. Once the hamburger is cooked to your liking, remove it from the pan and set aside. If you added vegetables you will remove them with the hamburger patties.
4. Sprinkle the flour over the oil or bacon grease in your pan. If you don’t have any left from cooking you will need to melt about 3 more tablespoons in the pan and once it is melted sprinkle the flour over it.
4. Cook the flour until it turns brown (the browner you want your gravy the longer you need to cook it). It will darken and thicken into a thick consistency.
5. While constantly stirring, pour in the chicken or beef broth. Stir until all of the clumps are gone and the gravy thickens up.
6. Add Salt and Pepper to taste.
7. Place the hamburger patties in the gravy and simmer on low for approximately 1 hour or longer for tender hamburger. If you are using vegetables you can add them at this time.
8. You can place all of your meat and gravy in a 9 x 13 crock pot and cook on low for about 4 hours for tender hamburger steak.
