Side Dish
We love Fried Green Tomatoes and the addition of cornstarch makes them a little extra crispy!
Ingredients
- 2 - 3 Large Green Tomatoes
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- Any additional seasonings you prefer
Batter Bowl 1
- 1 cup Cornstarch
Batter Bowl 2
- 1 cup Buttermilk
Batter Bowl 3
- 1 cup Self-Rising Flour
- 1 cup Yellow Cornmeal
- Any ⅓ cup cornstarch
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- Any additional seasonings you prefer
- Oil For Frying (I like peanut oil or any oil that can handle high temperatures)
Directions
Slice your tomatoes as thick as you want them and place them on a cooking rack and press with paper towels to get them a dry as possible.
Season the tomatoes with salt and pepper and whatever other seasonings you prefer.
Preheat your oil to 350 degrees
While the oil is preheating, get your batter stations ready.
Dip your sliced tomato in batter bowl 1 (cornstarch), and flip your tomato to get cornstarch on all sides.
Dip the tomato in batter bowl 2 and get it covered with buttermilk.
Then dip the tomato in batter bowl 3 and toss to coat. You may need to press the flour mixture into the tomato.
Lay the battered tomato in the oil and fry until golden on both sides. You may need to flip them every couple of minutes.
When they are golden brown, remove from the heat and place on a paper towel lined plate or a cooking rack until cool enough to eat.
Enjoy!
