There’s just something about old-fashioned banana pudding that tastes like home. ❤️ Creamy homemade pudding, sweet bananas, and layers of vanilla wafers make this classic Southern dessert one that never goes out of style!

Ingredients
Custard Ingredients
- 1 and 1/3 cups Sugar
- 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon Flour
- 1/2 teaspoon Kosher Salt
- 6 egg Yolks
- 3 cups Whole Milk
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- Box of Vanilla Wafer style Cookies
Meringue Ingredients
- 6 Egg Whites
- 3/4 teaspoon Cream of Tartar
- 1/2 cup Sugar
Directions
Custard Directions
Place all custard ingredients except the vanilla extract and wafer cookies in a double boiler over medium heat. (see notes about a double boiler)
Stir the custard mixture constantly until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
Remove from the heat and stir in the Vanilla extract until combined.
Meringue Directions
Beat 6 egg whites until frothy.
Add in ¾ teaspoon of Cream of Tartar and beat until mixed.
Add in ½ cup Sugar and beat until soft peaks form.
Spread on Top of the assembled pudding and bake at 350 degrees F for about 15 minutes until golden.
Layering the Banana Pudding
Custard on the bottom first.
Vanilla wafers as the second layer.
Slices of Bananas on top of the wafers.
Repeat the above layers, ending with the custard on top.
Spread the Meringue topping on top of the last layer.
Bake on 350 degrees F for approximately 15 minutes or until the meringue is lightly brown all over.
